Bronx Charter School for the Arts is a public elementary school that is opening this September. The architecture reflects the founding principle that arts education is critical to human development and learning and incorporates color theory and spatial clarity as a connection between the physical space and art. The result of the participatory design process was a unique, light-filled space that dovetailed with BSA's original mission. Through the adaptive re-use of an old factory building, the school will not only fill an important educational need, but it will also play a role in the transformation of Hunts Point. The teachers are happy to see the music, art and dance rooms occupy the facade space above the street level but connected to it.The project is planned to have an expansion phase as funds become available.

Bronx Charter School for the Arts was recently featured in Architectural Record and A Design Manual: Schools and Kindergartens by Mark Dudek.
